Folkus in 2021 and beyond - folk activists needed

For many years Folkus fulfilled its remit of organising events and workshops to help develop and spread the appreciation of folk music and dance throughout Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire.

A dedicated committe of folk enthusiasts worked to book tutors and venues and organise skills workshops on anything you could squeeze, blow, scrape, strum, pluck or bang.

However, the passage of time has meant that, over the years, the number of people actively involved involved with the committe has dwindled. Now, as music events are beginning to emerge from the long shadows of Lockdown, we are seeing a renewed appetite for playing music together and a determination to rehone and develop musical skills and techniques.

There remains a great wealth of tutors ready to share this knowledge, whether it is in workshops for separate instruments or, as came to the fore in Zoom sessions, in the teaching and sharing of songs and tunes.

We are looking for like-minded folk activists who can help with the work of the Folkus committee. At present meetings have been on-line and often only for an hour or so, at most once a month. So, if you share our enthusiasm for spreading the enjoyment of folk music, please do get in touch.
