RESIDENTIAL WORKSHOPS AT WADDOW HALL FEBRUARY 5TH - 7TH 2010
Folkus will be staging the 7th Spring Weekend of Music making at Waddow Hall near Clitheroe in Lancashire.
On Friday evening after dinner there will be a “Meet your Tutors” session, followed by a Folk Pub Quiz in the main hall. There will be a Music Session in the Bar and a Singers Session in the lounge. Saturday & Sunday - all day workshops.
Saturday night after dinner there will be a Concert & Ceilidh in the main hall.
The workshops are designed to encourage all musicians & vocalists to perform collectively & will include:
A) Slow & Easy Sessions. B) Individual tutorial sessions.
C) Ensemble sessions.d) Musicians 1st Aid Post - help when you need it during the weekend.

WHERE WE ARE
Waddow Hall is a beautiful Manor House situated on the banks of the River Ribble in Lancashire. Waddow Hall is reached by rail and road and is only a 15 minute walk from the centre of Clitheroe. Take the road to Waddington from Clitheroe. Waddow Hall is 1½ miles down the road on the left. Large Parking area at the Hall. Follow the signs.
ACCOMMODATION IN THE HALL
Every bedroom is en-suite, with a small shower pod & loo. Tea & coffee making facilities available. Rooms are Single, Twin or Shared for 3 or 4 persons. Please note all Singles & Twins are now booked.
ANNEXE ACCOMMODATION
RANGER COTTAGE- shared bunk rooms with an upstairs loo. Kitchen, lounge, showers and loos on ground floor.
Tea & Coffee making facilities. Sleeps 15
ROSE COTTAGE
Small cottage with shared bunk rooms, bathroom, lounge & kitchen. Tea & Coffee making facilities. Sleeps 6.
CATERING
Friday: Evening Meal. Saturday: Breakfast, Buffet Lunch, Evening Meal. Sunday: Breakfast and Lunch. Tea/Coffee breaks. Special diets can be catered for. If you’re a Vegetarian, Vegan or require a Special Diet please tell us on your booking form.
THE TAVERN BAR - Real Ale and wines on sale. Open during the evenings and at lunchtime.
YOUNG PEOPLE 10yrs-16yrs. Rusty & Stuart Wright of Folkus will be acting as hosts.

All Bookings are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to those who have paid a deposit. Full payment is required by 8th January 2010.

People staying in the Ranger or Rose Cottages take meals in the Hall with everyone else.

YOUR TUTORS FOR THE WEEKEND
Ben & Joe Broughton are an exciting duo from Chester.
They are masterful instrumentalists.
Ben, the supreme Guitarist, is Head of Performing Arts at the University of Chester. Ben will be the advanced Guitar tutor.
Joe, after a spell working with The Albion Band & Feast of Fiddles as the lead Fiddle, now teaches Folk Music and composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Joe will teach the advanced Fiddle.
Pete Coe has been called a one man folk industry and one
of our most versatile and impressive performers. Supremely
talented, Pete can play melodeon, banjo, dulcimer and bouzouki.
Pete Coe will be teaching advanced Melodeon. He is a qualified teacher and runs music making workshops throughout the country.
Cormac Byrne developed a love for the bodhran and traditional
music while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 2002 he formed folk band Uiscedwr with fiddle player Anna Esslemont. The following year they won the BBC Young Folk Award. Cormac combines a busy touring schedule with a number of education projects. Cormac will be teaching the Bodhran.
Roger Purves is a multi instrumentalist who is a graduate
of the Folkworks University in Newcastle. Roger is a master
of the styles and techniques of the Mandolin and will also be
teaching bouzouki during the weekend.
Emily Portman also graduated through the Folkworks college
of music. Emily is the lead singer in the group Rubus. She is
a highly regarded tutor within the new generation of Voice tutors
and has been invited back to Waddow by popular demand.
Terry Coyne is one of the finest Whistle players performing
on the folk circuit today. From Liverpool, Terry has worked with several bands and groups and is a very welcome addition to the Folkus tutorial team.
Robin Shepherd is returning to Waddow by popular demand.
Robin teaches Melodeon and is a fine Fiddle player. Robin can
dance a remarkable solo Morris Jig, whilst playing the Fiddle.
Jenny Coxon will be joining the team on the Sunday to demonstrate Dulcimer techniques. Bring your Dulcimers with you.
Our regular Folkus tutors will be Derek Gifford who is a popular
performer on the folk club circuit. He will be teaching intermediate styles of Guitar. Rusty & Stu Wright are tutors teaching Guitar, Fiddle, Ukelele and Spoons! Fred Rose is a multi instrumentalist playing Bodhran, Fiddle, Guitar and Whistle. Jenny Shotliff is a Fiddle tutor and will be on the 1st Aid post with Rusty & Stu. Alan Bell is a Folklorist, English Concertina player, singer songwriter and Chair of Folkus.
