FOLKUS Newsletter Introduction

Happy New Year from all of us at FOLKUS.
As can be seen from the calendar of events,
there are some great music events planned
and to be enjoyed. None more so than the
Folkus 5th annual weekend of music making
at Waddow Hall, Clitheroe over the weekend
of 8th - 10th February 2008.

In addition to the workshops and tutors
already hooked, the organising committee
of Folkus is pleased to announce they have
been able to provide extra workshops and
tutors to meet demand.

On Saturday 9th February Ken Nicol will be
joining us to lead the advanced guitar
workshop. James Fagan will teach Mandolin
and Bouzouki. (We will have spare
instruments on hand for those wishing
to try.) Our tutor list is now complete with
Nancy Kerr teaching advanced fiddle, Hilary
Spencer - voice, Brian Peters - Melodeon
and Angle Concertina, Will Long - Bodhran,
Robin Shepherd - Melodeon, Matt Walklate
- Irish Tin Whistle, Matt Fahey - guitarist
and accompanist.

Plus all the Folkus regulars, Derek Gifford,
Rusty and Stu Wright, Fred Rose, Jenny
Shotliff and Alan Bell songwriter.
There will be some spaces available for day
delegates. However, the weekend is always
oversubscribed, so to avoid disappointment,
book soon.

Good news! Folkus will be increasing music
making activities during the year with more
workshops in more places. These will be
staged in East Lancashire and the Barrow
in Furness area, Whitehaven and West Cumbria.

The experimental single instrument workshop
on guitar was o huge success in November at
Garstang. Over thirty people attended.
The day was for beginners, two levels of
intermediates, and advanced. This format
on a single instrument, guitar, is to be repeated
at our January workshop in Hoole, Cheshire.
